Light Corporation spins-off new company and joins the Emerge Alliance at Greenbuild
Boston, MA - Light Corporation, a world-class specialty lighting manufacturer whose product offerings enlighten the workplace, has spun-off a new company. This new company, Kanepi Innovations, will focus on the on-going development of the Intu! Wireless Infrastructure platform and technology being introduced this week at the Greenbuild International Conference & Exposition in Boston, MA.
Kanepi's technology is the industry's first true wireless technology. It was developed to replace the wiring infrastructure utilized in today's construction practices as well as building automation systems which are still dependent upon homeruns and wiring configurations of some type. The system was designed to focus on the use of electricity within the workplace and to reduce the usage of that electricity through the use of scheduling protocols, flexibility and individual addressability of control for specific devices, peak energy shaving, and demand response applications. In addition, Intu! acts as a technology "canopy" allowing for additional applications to be supported within the wireless infrastructure - control of other devices such as VAV systems, humidifiers, fans, conveyors, and security and asset tracking to name a few.
Based on this new approach to energy control, monitoring, and wireless infrastructure, Kanepi was asked to join the Emerge Alliance, a group of like-minded organizations looking to create a new power, control and device-level technology standard for commercial interiors, developed around the use of safe, low-voltage direct-current (DC) power. Intu! will be utilized to control the devices and for location of those devices within the DC building grid.
"We're very impressed with the vision of the Emerge Alliance and the tie-in to our own vision for the responsive workplace," said Larry Leete, Director - Sales, Marketing, and Strategic Continuity for Kanepi Innovations. "Our view of the new sources of alternative energy, specifically wind and solar, allow for the need of a DC based grid. This allows for a 12% conservation of energy that normally would be lost in the transformation of power from DC to AC and then back to DC to power up the daily devices that we need to utilize in today's working world. Our Intu! technology will support the "no-wires" thought process currently being adopted within the standard. Reducing energy is just one aspect of this, however, and driving toward the ability to better utilize our electrical needs in a more granular way allows for conservation efforts to be better realized," added Leete.
Brad Davis, President of Light Corporation remarked on the timing of this announcement, "Greenbuild is the perfect place to make these announcements. What we're doing to impact the betterment of the environment lies at the very heart of who Light Corporation is. This technology, and new business for that matter, has the ability to positively impact organizations that are looking to better themselves and be more productive stewards as they deal with the environment. How do we make that minimalistic impact? Greenbuild is where some of these answers come from - and we're happy to participate in that dialogue by presenting some of our own thinking in terms of products and services."
Light Corporation, located in Grand Haven, Michigan, provides the expertise, manufacturing, and distribution of fluorescent and LED-based lighting technologies.
